Yes, you can order flowers for same-day delivery in Columbus and nearby areas. Here’s how same-day flower delivery works, when to order, and what helps your florist deliver on time.
Yes — and it happens more often than you might think. At Milano’s Uptowne Florist, we’ve been delivering flowers throughout Columbus, Powell, Worthington, Dublin, Lewis Center, Delaware, Westerville, Upper Arlington, Hilliard, Plain City and the surrounding Central Ohio communities since 1935. Same-day delivery is one of the most common requests we get.
Life doesn’t always give you advance notice. Sometimes you wake up and realize it’s your anniversary. Sometimes a friend ends up in the hospital. Sometimes you just want to brighten someone’s day — today, not next week. Here’s everything you need to know about ordering same-day flowers from a real local florist, straight from someone who’s been doing this for decades.
Our general cutoff for same-day delivery is 12:30 PM Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, we cut off around 11:00 AM. These are the cutoff times reflected on our website at milanoflorist.com.
That said, delivery is area-dependent and depends on how busy we are that day. If you’re cutting it close or ordering after the website cutoff, the best thing to do is call us directly at (614) 889-1001. We’ll tell you honestly whether we can make it happen.
Orders that come in at 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning are much easier to work with than ones that arrive at 12:15. The earlier you order, the smoother everything goes — for you, for us, and for the person receiving the flowers.
The reasons are almost always personal and time-sensitive. The most common ones we see every day:
Flowers are one of the few gifts where same-day actually makes sense. They’re timely, personal, and meaningful — and the fact that they arrive today is part of what makes them special.
A lot of people assume that same-day delivery means grabbing something pre-made off a shelf. That’s not how we work.
Every arrangement at Milano’s Uptowne Florist is custom-made that day — whether it’s one of the designs you see on our website, a recipe arrangement, or something completely custom. When your order comes in (online or by phone), we identify what you want and work it into our design production schedule alongside everything else going out that day.
We prioritize based on time sensitivity. A funeral arrangement has to leave earlier than a home delivery. A business drop-off has to account for closing time. Our designers are working on your order, our driver is routing deliveries, and sometimes — when the day gets busy — I’ll get in the car myself to make sure something gets there on time. We’ve even put a second vehicle on the road when the schedule demanded it.
It’s not magic. It’s planning, experience, and a team that takes pride in getting things right.
Because our shop is located between Powell and Worthington, we're able to provide efficient same-day delivery throughout Powell, Worthington, Dublin, Lewis Center, Columbus, Delaware, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Plain City, and surrounding Central Ohio communities.
As with any local delivery service, we plan our routes to make sure every order arrives on time. Deliveries to businesses, schools, hospitals, and funeral homes often have specific timing requirements, so those are carefully scheduled throughout the day. That's one reason we always recommend ordering as early as possible—it gives us the greatest flexibility to deliver your flowers when they're needed.
If you're ordering later in the day and aren't sure whether same-day delivery is still available, just give us a call. We'll let you know what's possible and do everything we can to make it happen.
The more information you give us upfront, the better we can serve you. Here’s what helps most:
Home deliveries are generally the most flexible because there’s no hard deadline. Businesses and schools are a different story. If it’s going to someone’s workplace, let us know what time they get off — we don’t want to arrive at 2:55 for someone who leaves at 3:00 (and might have left 15 minutes early). If it’s a school, we try to deliver earlier in the day to avoid the chaos of bus pickup and aftercare.
This is more important than most people realize. We’ve started calling it the “Amazon effect” — people got so used to packages arriving during COVID that they often hear the doorbell and think, “I’ll get it later.” We need a phone number so our driver can give the recipient a quick heads-up that flowers are at the door. It also helps us confirm we’re at the right address and handing things off to the right person.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you call. We’ll walk you through it. Do they have a favorite flower? A favorite color? What’s the occasion? What’s your budget? We ask the right questions — that’s our job. But the more you already know, the faster we can get your order moving.
A lot of people assume you need to order flowers days or even a week in advance. That’s simply not true — at least not at a real local florist.
We have professional designers in our shop every single day. We’re equipped to handle same-day requests and do it well. We’re not scrambling — this is exactly what we’re set up for.
The one exception is around major floral holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. During those windows, we do have to restrict same-day orders because the volume is so high. Our commitment to customers who preordered comes first — making the arrangement is only half of it; getting it there on time is the other half. Outside of those holidays, same-day is very much on the table.
After nearly 90 years of delivering flowers, I can tell you that the reaction is never really different whether it’s a same-day delivery or one that was planned weeks in advance. Everyone smiles. Every time.
Because it’s not really about the flowers — it’s about the fact that someone took the time to think about them. Of course, once the flowers arrive, you'll want them to last as long as possible. After your flowers arrive, you may also want to read our guide how long cut flowers last and how to keep them fresh longer. Whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, a hospital stay, or just a rough week, flowers say “I’m thinking of you” in a way that’s hard to replicate. Same-day delivery just means that message doesn’t have to wait.
If you want the process to be as easy as possible, here’s what we recommend:
Same-day flower delivery isn’t a workaround. It’s a real service from a real shop with real designers who care about getting it right. Whether you're sending flowers to someone in Columbus, Powell, Dublin, Worthington, Westerville, Delaware, Upper Arlington, or another Central Ohio community, we're here to help. Need flowers delivered today? Call Milano’s Uptowne Florist at (614) 889-1001 or order flowers online for same-day delivery.
