Our Journey Back: The Fire, Margie and Our New Home

On the night of March 20, 2025, a fire broke out in the restaurant next door to our longtime location at 2145 West Dublin Granville Road in Worthington. We want to share the full story of what happened, how our community carried us through it, and how we found our way to our new home.

The Night of the Fire

The fire started between 11:30 PM and midnight. We didn't learn about it until the next morning, when calls and texts from family and suppliers started coming in. We rushed to the shop and found the building next door and several others in the strip center completely destroyed, roofs burned through. Our shop was spared from direct fire damage, but we found four feet of water in our basement, smoke damage throughout, and debris everywhere.

Margie the Flower Cat

Our shop cat, Margie, known throughout the community as Margie the Flower Cat, escaped during the chaos when firefighters broke open our doors. She was missing for eight days. Neighbors, customers, and kids from the local school who used to visit her at the shop helped search all over Worthington. We received calls and texts from people who spotted her around town. One of our designers, who loves Margie dearly, set out a humane trap and came out at four in the morning to check it. On the eighth day, Margie was found safe. She now lives with that designer, since our new location sits on a busier road and we want to keep her safe.

Keeping Our Promises

Even in the middle of the chaos that first morning, we had arrangements and deliveries scheduled. We loaded everything we could into a car so our driver could complete those deliveries. People were counting on us, and we didn't want to let them down.

The next day, rather than let our remaining flowers go to waste, we held a fire sale so the community could take home flowers and build their own arrangements, with donations welcome. Shortly after, our focus shifted to our daughter's wedding, just three weeks away. We secured space with one of our flower suppliers so we could complete her wedding flowers on schedule.

Finding Our Way Forward

With the building's future uncertain and out of our hands as tenants, we made the difficult decision to close our doors while we sorted through insurance, explored new locations, and waited on our landlord's rebuilding plans. Our designers found temporary work at other florists during this time, and we spent months searching for the right new space.

In late August 2025, we found our new home at 729 Mt. Airyshire Boulevard in Columbus. Starting October 1st, we began reconstruction: waterproofing floors, removing walls, installing new display coolers, and building new design tables and counters. We wanted to do it right, even if it took time.

Reopening

We reopened our doors on January 19, 2026, with a quiet soft opening. Just a week later, a major snowstorm shut down the Columbus area for several days. We haven't had our official ribbon cutting or grand opening yet, but we're planning one for fall.

In the News

Our story was covered by local media at the time. Watch the segment below, and see the full coverage links after.

Rebuilding Together

We know some of our loyal customers found other florists during our closure, and we understand why. We're working every day to reconnect with our community and earn that trust back. Coming through this experience, we brought our full design team back, streamlined our operations, and built a calmer, more intentional space for both our staff and our customers.
